Some time ago, Apple made a change in iOS that makes it difficult for Apple Music subscribers to import songs into Capo that were purchased on the iTunes store. Fortunately, this is easy to fix.
On an iPhone or iPad
- Open the Settings app
- Select the Music app’s settings
- Under the Audio group, tap on Audio Quality
- If the Lossless Audio toggle is off, turn it on
- Tap on Downloads, then select High Quality
If you’ve already made a song available offline on your Mac, you may have to right-click on the song, choose “Remove Download”, then re-download it before Capo can access it.
On the Mac
- In the Music app, choose Music > Settings… from the main menu at the top of your screen. (Or select Music > Preferences… for earlier versions of macOS)
- Select the Playback tab at the top
- Check the Lossless audio checkbox
- Under Audio Quality, change the Download option to High Quality (AAC 256 kbps)
If you’ve already made a song available offline on your Mac, you may have to right-click on the song and choose “Remove Download”, then re-download it before Capo can access it.
What’s the problem, exactly?
If you’re an Apple Music subscriber, you can listen to high-quality lossless versions of your favourite recordings. When you make these songs available for offline listening, Apple Music will download a lossless version of the recording by default.
However, purchases from the iTunes store use the iTunes Plus format, which is not lossless. So when you choose to make a song available offline from the Music app, you’re not getting the DRM-free version of the song you paid for. At least, not by default.
